We are back with another Wedding VUE! This week we are highlighting the lovely Katie Burak. Katie recently married Slavik, her best friend of 10 years, and now husband. Although, the wedding festivities won’t stop there. They are (re)planning their original wedding of a destination wedding in Tuscany now set to happen in 2021. Katie and Slavik live in New York and met through mutual friends about 10 years ago, only to start dating almost 6 and a half years later. Their love story might seem quick to some, but when you know, you know; and they knew right away.
Please introduce yourself and tell us more about you and your fiancé?
Hi! I am Katie, a Siberian girl living in New York with my best friend Slavik, who also just became my husband He is originally from Ukraine, he works in Finance and I work in Advertising. We met through mutual friends about 10 years ago, but started dating only 3.5 years ago, when I got out of the relationship I was in for about 6 years. Slavik and I started spending a lot of time together and having the same interests we quickly became very close. 6 months later we decided to move in together, 2 years later we got engaged, and we just had our civil wedding here in NY and now, we are planning our destination wedding celebration in Italy for next year. In between we are enjoying traveling, photography, style, hiking, and adventuring.
Tell us about your wedding, have you started planning? And if so, how would you describe your wedding style?
We got engaged a year ago, November 2nd 2019, and we had a wedding date on September 19th, 2020, in Italy. With everything going in the world, we of course, had to postpone our wedding. Our wedding style is something between Classic and Bohemian. You are actually the first people I’m telling this We don’t have a specific theme per se, but since our venue is in Tuscany, it’s just very romantic and neutral, with natural pastel colors and some greenery.
What elements will you add to ensure that the wedding is authentically true to yourself and your relationship?
Since we’re having a destination wedding, we definitely want our friends and family to stay together with us in one place. That was our priority in planning the wedding and picking the venue. Then, at the ceremony we want to do personal vows (very nervous about them). For the reception we are planning to have an outside dinner with long tables for everyone to sit together under the string lights. And we are adding some Italian traditions to our celebration just to make it a little special.
Are you doing anything different or out of the ordinary?
Yes, we are basically having 3 weddings haha! Originally, of course, it was supposed to be one, but with moving our wedding celebration to 2021, we still wanted to get married legally on our original date. And we did! We had a private civil ceremony in the NY Town Hall with only our witnesses and then we had a little get-together with our friends at our parents’ house. Then, next year we are going to have a traditional religious ceremony here in New York, in a Ukrainian Church in Manhattan. And then finally (fingers crossed) we’ll have our dream wedding in Tuscany.
If your wedding day was made into a movie, what do you think the name of the movie would be?
“Secret Garden on a Tuscan Hill”
